Bottled Up

Media Access Solutions has developed a digital sommelier for residential use. Called eSommelier, the system allows wine connoisseurs to manage their collections digitally from a touch-screen panel. An internal hard drive stores a database of more than 130,000 wines. Cataloging wine is as easy as selecting country, region, variety, winery and vintage from a prompt. Owners also can add notes and ratings. The company plans to add a feature allowing online wine purchases.

The basic touch-screen server sells for $5,000. The deluxe model, compatible with AMX and Crestron home automation systems, sells for $8,000. It requires custom installation.
